Emergency course for high school graduates

The University revision course in mathematics, conducted by the employees of the Institute of Mathematics at the University of Gdańsk in March and April 2016.

  • The classes will be conducted by the employees of the Institute of Mathematics at the University of Gdańsk, in the building of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, the University of Gdańsk, ul. Wita Stwosza 57, Gdańsk-Oliwa.
  • People interested in taking part in the course are requested to contact us by e-mail at matura@mat.ug.edu.pl.
  • The number of participants is limited.
  • The price for the whole course (28 hours): 280 PLN.
  • There will be separate groups for high school graduates taking their final exams at basic and extended levels.
  • The classes will take place on Saturdays (5th, 12th, 19th of March and 2nd 9th 16th and 23rd of April) from 9:00 to 12:25.
  • The following areas shall be covered during the course:
    • Extended level: 1) Functions. Polynomials. Rational functions. 2) Trigonometry. 3) Exponential and logarithmic functions. 4) Plane geometry. Analytic geometry. 5) Stereometry. 6) Sequences. Probability calculus. 7) Probability calculus. Statistics. (Proving exercises accompanying each of the above areas will be included).
    • Basic level: 1) Quadratic functions. 2) Polynomials. Rational functions. 3) Plane geometry. Proving exercises in geometry. 4) Analytical geometry. 5) Stereometry. 6) Probability calculus. Statistics. 7) Proving exercises in algebra.
  • Teachers conducting the course:
    • Dr Elżbieta Mrożek is an adjunct in the Department of Mathematics Didactics of the Institute of Mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics at the University of Gdańsk. She conducts scientific research concerning constructivist methods of teaching mathematics and is the author of several papers on this subject. She has also written numerous articles for teachers, which were published in the magazine “Mathematics in Schools”. Ms Mrożek often gives popular-scientific lectures for students and participates in organising various events which promote learning mathematics, such as “You won't make a career without mathematics”, “Mathematics as an important element of culture and civilisation”, “Mathematical garden”, “Pomeranian Mathematical Matches”. Additionally, she works as a teacher in one of the Tri-City schools.

 

  • Dr Nikodem Mrożek is an adjunct in the Department of Real-Valued Functions of the Institute of Mathematics at the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics. For a few years he was a co-organiser of the Mathematical League organised by the Scientific Circle of Mathematicians at the University of Gdańsk (the Mathematical League was created for students of secondary schools in the Pomeranian Province). Mr Mrożek is the author of articles addressed to teachers of mathematics, which were published in the magazine “Mathematics in Schools”.
