Grants for two FMPI scientists at SONATA BIS 14!
We are proud to announce that two employees of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics have received approval for funding for their projects in the SONATA BIS 14 contest organized by the National Science Centre (Poland).
- Dr. hab. Michał Grzegorz Studziński, prof. UG from the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics received funding equal of PLN 2 784 960 for a project "Efficient higher-order quantum computations"
- Dr. Felix Huber from the Institute of Experimental Physics received funding equal of PLN 2 911 590 for "Mathematical Optimization in Quantum Information"
With these grants, University of Gdańsk will be able to hold research on mathematical aspects of quantum computing, under the supervision of new teams. Professor Michał Studziński stated that the NCN funds will allow for financing the research group's operations for up to five years, as well as employ new postgraduates. The professor also confessed that he plans to cooperate with partners from abroad.
Doctor Huber's project will address problems related to quantum computers in a numerical manner, in which optimization methods will play a key role. The undertaking is also an opportunity to build a Polish quantum computer. The funds from the grant will allow for employing not only postgraduates, but also a PhD.
The FMPI's winners gave short interviews - which you can read on the University's site - where they talk about their project plans in more detail.
We sincerely congratulate our scientists on behalf of the entire Faculty!
